Incredible Opportunity!

So, where has Vic been these past few weeks? I had the most incredible trip in Ukraine and Amsterdam visiting ophanages and rehibilition centers. There were about twenty of us from California, and we met up with a dozen more people from North Carolina. There were long plane, train and bus rides, going to campsites, beaches and ancient ruins, an unscheduled evening thunder storm and three baptisms. A photographer's dream with tons to photograph!

What was amazing were the stories of some of these kids, each with their own devasting, heart-wrenching backgrounds, it's a wonder that anyone would care to do something for these kids. Unforgettable and so glad to experience something like that! Really changes your prespective on things.

Where there's a wedding rehearsal, there's got to be a wedding. Suzanne and Bobby's wedding was one of most memorable weddings I'll ever attend. Being musicians, there were a lot of talented guests who were more than happy to contribute to the festivities. Hey, that's what talented people do, right? The crowd erupted when the Bride and Groom took to the stage, complete with the Groom's lead vocals and the Bride's drum solo!! I can't wait to see the video on that! What a fun shoot we had with Anita, David and family at their favorite park! It doesn't look like we're in Southern California. This park had it all: lush trees, golden flowers, waddling duck, noisy geese, wooden bridge, lake, etc! A lot of stuff to be creative with.

WPPI 2008!!!

WPPI 2008 (Wedding and Portrait Photographers International) was a blast and a huge opportunity for networking!!! Sheila and I received one of only 100 invitations extended to photographers nationwide to an album-unveiling-event sponsored by Albums, Inc! We are excited about these Italian albums! The "Album Epoca" executives were even there from Italy!!!

We also got the chance to hang out with the some of Southern California "Big Dawgs" of Wedding Photography!!

Marc Weisberg was there! He held a Master Class on Identity and Multimedia Branding, but we got to chit chat one-on-one with him at the Albums Inc. party!

There was even a surprise proposal!! Brian set up a mock door prize where his soon-to-be fiancee won the prize. One-by-one, people came up and handed her a rose. Lastly, Brian approached her with the final rose, a ring and proposal. Is there a photographer in the house? Ummmm....yup! Congrats to Brian and Elissa!

Not only that, but we were able to reconnect with Jennifer George, Master Photographer (www.JenniferGeorgePhotography.com). She has just come out with a book on pregnancy photography... we got our own autographed copy! We had brunch with her and Kim Treffinger (www.treffinger.com) to talk shop. They had a lot to tell us about the significance of branding our studio properly.

While going through the tradeshow, we saw Angela Carson. She is a Master Photographer of Children's Portraiture and spoke at one of the Master Classes at the conference. She was awesome to give us advice for our studio right then and there in the aisles of the tradeshow. (www.AngelaCarson.com)

We even got the chance to put a face with vendors we talk to on the phone!

Yup, WPPI 2008 was the best ever for us!!!

Sheila and I did our first Bridal Show last weekend. Can you believe that?!?!?! I've always wanted to participate in one! It was pretty exciting for our first bridal show. Lots of people stopped to hear what we had to offer. Sheila did an amazing job of holding people's attention as she educated them on why we are different than the other photographers. We gave away an engagement photoshoot and we were excited to meet the winners. Snoopy was not getting married but did tell us about Lucy and Schroeder. And we've got several callbacks already...WOOOHOOOO! Can't wait for the next one!

THe family decided to take a roadtrip to San Lius Obispo, a small, quaint, artsy type of place (at least where I was). One of the tourist art spots is Bubblegum Alley where the walls are literally covered with ABC (Already Been Chewed) gum! Blah!! I took these shots then felt queezy.

Here's Becky at her favorite place Disneyland.

Disneyland was crowded with visitors during the holiday season, we had to be patient waiting for people to pass by. There was one onlooker saw what we were doing and helped pose her a little bit.

One of the challenges for this shoot was to not make the pictures look like what a tourist would photograph. Fortunately, Disneyland has a lot of scenic places.

Like all our photoshoots, Becky has a unique look and it was fun capturing these images!

An Evening at the Mission Inn

Today we went to Nancy and Ed's Wedding Rehearsal at the Mission Inn. Sheila and I were in for a treat because the Mission Inn had their holiday decorations on display. There were angels, Christmas tress, bright lights, elves, carolers, horse and carraige, you name it.

It was wonderful meeting Ed and Nancy's family and friends. We met some of them from his cousins wedding.

The Next Hollywood Secrets Model

This is Dina, and she is going to be the next Hollywood Secrets Model (we hope). Dina really helped us out in a bind. A cosmetics company asked us to create a commercial for their new product: Hollywood Secrets. Their product leverages nanotechnology to reduce wrinkles in five minutes (Can you believe that?!?! Pretty cool) Anyway, we had a week to put this together. Furthermore we needed a model for our commercial and an old friend of my brother's agreed to be the model, not being a model herself.
Well, our client liked her image so much that he is going to replace their current model from their brochures and advertising material and replace it with Dina's. Isn't that awesome!?!?!? Very exciting indeed.

By the way, these modeling shots were photographed by Silver Line Photography. ;-) Way to go, Dina!!

For some reason, I am intrigued by this artistic version of this bride picture. I like how the brush streaks add motion and flow to the dress and veil. The background becomes a little bit more interesting without detracting from the subject. It's kinda interesting. I think I like it!

Housecall Doctors Part 2

It's one thing to photograph a professional model who is scheduled to come into the studio to work. It's other thing to walk into an office of people who was not informed with alone a small courtyard outside of their office. I can understand why so many of them expressed their discomfort. I found himself having to take time making them feel comfortable and convincing them that it was going to be okay, and that their images were going to be just fine. The next day I showed the manager this image to be used for their website and was very pleased.

We took our clients to our favorite framers just down the street from our studio. As you can see, our clients have many frames to choose from. The correct frame with the right color, material, size, etc has an incredible effect on the images they selected, transforming them into a work of art. We had a great time photographing the Coffman family for their first ever beach portrait. We worried that the gray skies would dampen the background. But instead the clouds provided just the right lighting to avoid squinting and lit up the sky and water beautifully once we were ready to go. Sue, the mother, was Sheila's doula (labor support) with her second child seven years ago. They've kept in touch and now we were able to create a lasting memory for the Coffman family.

Sheila got this assignment from a lawyer who needed this picture of a wheel rim professionally retouched for a case. Sheila was asked to clean up this photo, removing everything except for the rim itself. As you can see, Sheila is very detail oriented when it comes to photo retouching and restorations. That why she's called the Surgeon!
